Content Marketing Café over Inbound Marketing & Marketing Automation
Security Automation Using OVAL
Languages Open Vulnerability and Assessment Language: OVAL is an international community standard to promote open and publicly available security content and to standardize the transfer of this information in security tools and services. As previously mentioned, OVAL is designed to assist security administrators by accelerating the analysis of a system for the presence of vulnerabilities or configuration best practices. OVAL provides a structured and standard machine-readable format that allows system security administrators to quickly consume security vulnerability information and identify affected devices. Security and network administrators can use configuration compliance or vulnerability management products, often called OVAL scanners, to automate assessment of configuration compliance. OVAL content, often called OVAL definitions, can be downloaded directly from Cisco Security Advisories for Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software.
Metadata: The metadata includes the OVAL identifier, status of the definition, OVAL version and schema, and references such as CVE IDs and URLs for associated security advisories. Because OVAL definitions are XML files, an XML schema is needed to describe the structure of the OVAL definition files. OVAL definitions must comply with the OVAL Definition Schema and should be written in accordance with the guidance defined by resources in the OVAL repository in GitHub. OVAL enables interoperability between security and network management products from different vendors in different vertical markets, allowing organizations to quickly and automatically perform vulnerability and compliance assessment of network infrastructure and networking devices. The following sections provide step-by-step guidance for using OVAL content and the Joval tool to scan a device that is running Cisco IOS Software.
The tool will connect to R1 by using SSH. For information about configuring SSH on devices running Cisco IOS Software, see Configuring Secure Shell on Routers and Switches Running Cisco IOS. The Joval tool uses an OVAL definition interpreter named jovaldi. The name of the OVAL definition file is cisco-sa-20120328-ike-CVE-2012-0381 oval.
Content Marketing and Marketing Automation: How Content Strategy Depends on and Benefits Demand Generation
Even as marketing automation becomes more accessible, there is still often a silo between demand generation and content marketing. As content marketing moves into the performance era and marketers must prove the value of their work, it’s crucial that demand generation and content marketing teams align. Without insight into demand generation metrics, content marketers won’t be able to demonstrate ROI. And without content, demand generation efforts will never reach their true potential. In this post, I will walk through how and where content marketing fits into the marketing automation landscape.
I’ll also share examples of how NewsCred has bridged the gap between demand generation and content marketing for ourselves and our clients. When thinking about the buyer journey, content marketing often gets perceived as a top-of-funnel play, while demand generation exists at the middle and bottom of the funnel. As a result, it is imperative that content marketing teams closely align with demand generation teams to ensure that they’re receiving credit for content that drove leads. NewsCred’s content marketing platform has a powerful feature to show when content marketing drove high-value conversions, such as email subscriptions and form fills, and resulted in those leads entering marketing automation platforms. We often see the same situation with clients: The content marketing team does an exceptional job growing an audience with content, resulting in a large subscription database of email newsletter readers.
We’ve seen time and time again that content leads are 3-5x more likely to convert than cold leads, so it benefits both content and demand generation teams to align on strategy. For content marketers, it’s crucial to understand the KPIs that exist within this platform so that they are correctly working with demand generation teams to get attribution for content. As efforts like account-based marketing become more popular, and as audiences become more demanding of personalized, considered marketing touchpoints, then having a content strategy throughout the funnel will become increasingly important.
