Automation Summit

Join us at the ISG Automation Summit to explore how automation is changing the way we live and work. Robotic Process Automation and cognitive technologies create competitive advantage through improved processes in areas such as customer service, enhanced back-office operations, and warehouse management. The ISG Automation Summit combines strategic guidance with practical advice about the promise and peril of automation and digital labor and their implications for the workplace. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the automation opportunity in their IT or business services environment, as well as how to build the business case and begin the process. Which roles should enterprise leaders automate; and, what are they already automating? How should your office prepare for transformational change over the next decade? What benefits should you consider when evaluating RPA platforms? What new tech breakthroughs are on the horizon and what challenges and opportunities do they present? What security risks should you be aware of in your RPA infrastructure? What are the “People matters” that can make or break an RPA initiative? What true capabilities are available to harness your data and how do you set expectations? What challenges do cognitive technologies such as Chatbots, NLP, Intelligent OCR, etc.

Automation Editor

In Home Assistant 0.45 we introduced the first version of our automation editor. If you just created a new configuration with Home Assistant then you’re all set! Go to the UI and enjoy. From the UI choose Configuration which is located in the sidebar, then click on Automation to go to the automation editor. This example is based on the manual steps described in the Getting started section for a random sensor. If the value of the sensor is greater than 10 then the automation rule should apply. As “Service Data” we want a simple text that is shown as part of the notification. In order for your saved automation rule to come into effect you will need to go to the Configuration page and click on Reload Automation. The automation editor reads and writes to the file automations. Migrating your automations to automations. If you want to migrate your old automations to use the editor, you’ll have to copy them to automations. Yaml remains a list! For each automation that you copy over you’ll have to add an id. The below automation will be triggered when the sun goes from below the horizon to above the horizon. If the temperature is between 17 and 25 degrees, a light will be turned on.

Understanding automation

Automation helps businesses on their path to digital transformation. Organizations today are dealing with major disruption-think Airbnb, Amazon, etc. They’re challenged with supporting their employees and partners, reaching new customers, and providing new, innovative products and services faster. They want and need to be the ones disrupting their own industries. Automation is critical to managing, changing, and adapting not only your IT infrastructure, but the way your business operates through its processes. By simplifying change through automation, you gain the time and energy to focus on innovation. The automated enterprise’s goal is to get work done faster. This frees up IT staff to focus on bigger issues, resolving them, and-in turn-making them routine and eligible for automation. It’s even harder to keep up with legacy systems and processes while adopting new ones. Requirements and demand are growing exponentially faster than IT and business capabilities. New methodologies like DevOps are forcing cultural changes. The scale of technology is too great to do manually.
